My Basic Needs Charity Foundation is a UK-registered charity working to improve the lives of children, young people and families facing poverty, hardship and limited access to basic necessities and opportunities.
Our work and developing vision extend across the United Kingdom, Ghana and Burkina Faso, with programmes shaped by the needs of the communities we serve and the resources available to us.
Ghana
In Ghana’s North East Region, our current priority is supporting schoolchildren with access to food during the school day.
We believe that hunger should never stand between a child and their education. By supporting children with school meals, we aim to improve their wellbeing, concentration, school participation and ability to learn.
Our longer-term ambitions in Ghana include educational materials, clothing, safe school transport and practical skills development for young people.
Burkina Faso
In Fada N’Gourma, Burkina Faso, the Foundation supports children and families facing similar challenges associated with poverty and access to basic necessities.
As resources and partnerships develop, we aim to strengthen our support for children’s nutrition, education and wider wellbeing, while exploring opportunities that can help young people develop practical skills and greater independence.
United Kingdom
Our future vision also includes developing community-based support in the United Kingdom.
Subject to funding, partnerships and available resources, we aim to support food banks and other community initiatives helping families experiencing food insecurity and financial hardship.
We also aspire to create practical skills opportunities for teenagers and young people, including hairdressing and other vocational training, particularly for those who may benefit from additional pathways into education, employment or self-employment.
