My Basic Needs Charity Foundation is committed to protecting children, young people, adults at risk, volunteers, staff, partners and members of the public from harm, abuse, exploitation and neglect.

Our safeguarding principle
Everyone who comes into contact with MBNCF has the right to be treated with dignity, listened to and protected from avoidable harm. Safeguarding is a shared responsibility and must be built into programme design, recruitment, partnerships, communications, fundraising, visits, photography and digital activity.
The welfare of a child or adult at risk takes priority over reputation, convenience, personal relationships or organisational interests.
What MBNCF expects
Prevent and reduce risk
Identify risks, design proportionate controls, use appropriate supervision and stop activity that cannot be delivered safely.
Recognise and respond
Take concerns seriously, record facts promptly, preserve confidentiality and refer to the appropriate safeguarding or statutory authority.
Review and improve
Review incidents, near misses, complaints, partner performance and changing risks so policies remain practical and effective.
People, partners and safer working
Roles involving contact with children or adults at risk should have clear responsibilities, appropriate selection and checks, safeguarding information, supervision and a code of conduct proportionate to the role.
Partners are expected to comply with relevant local law, have suitable safeguarding arrangements, report concerns promptly and permit MBNCF to review or stop activity where risk is not being managed.
No volunteer, donor, visitor, photographer or partner is entitled to unsupervised access to a child or beneficiary merely because they support the Foundation.
Stories, photographs and digital contact
Content involving children or vulnerable people must preserve dignity and privacy. Appropriate informed consent or other lawful authority should be obtained, unnecessary identifying details should be avoided and imagery must never be exploitative.
Adults representing MBNCF should not initiate private, secret or inappropriate digital relationships with children. Programme communication should use approved channels and involve a responsible adult or organisation where appropriate.
Report a safeguarding concern
Immediate danger: contact the relevant emergency service or statutory authority in the country where the person is located. In the United Kingdom, call 999 where there is an immediate risk of serious harm.
Report to MBNCF: email admin@mybasicneedscharityfoundation.com with the subject “Safeguarding concern”, or call 020 3304 1304.
State what happened or was observed, when and where it occurred, who may be at risk and whether urgent action has already been taken. Record facts, not assumptions. Do not investigate, confront an alleged person responsible or promise complete secrecy.
Confidentiality, records and action
Safeguarding information should be shared only with people who need it to protect someone, assess risk, fulfil a legal duty or manage the concern. Confidentiality cannot be guaranteed where disclosure is needed to prevent harm or report to an authority.
MBNCF may suspend an activity or relationship, preserve relevant records, refer a concern to statutory bodies and report a serious incident to the appropriate regulator where required.
